Semaglutide's (Ozempic's) Mechanism Of Action

Sustainably treating obesity with drug interventions has historically been a challenge, though more recently, the use of Glucagon Like Peptide (GLP-1) agonists have been shown to decrease body weight by 15% in those using the drug.  Semaglutide (an amino acid) functions via a fascinating mechanism of action- namely, it simulates insluin release, thereby increasing glucose (sugar, carbohydrate) metabolism, while simultaneously inhibiting the hormone glucagon, stabalizing blood sugar.

Hence, the use of Semaglutide as an intervention against obesity is an effective means of decreasing net food intake by slowing digestion, and inhibiting sensations of hunger.
